Infiltration and Insulation
Infiltration in your home is one of the most common reasons homeowners experience comfort problems.  Identifying where the infiltration is occuring and sealing these leaks will significantly improve the performance of your home.  Complex diagnostics help us to find how much your home is leaking and where the leaks are occuring.  Typically, the hardest leaks to find are often the biggest cause of poor comfort.  From cantilever overhangs, to garage ceilings, excess infiltration will cause comfort issues in areas that are not even close to where the infiltration is getting in the home.  So what is infiltration?  Imagine for a minute that you are up in the mountains sitting at the patio fireplace, sipping a hot toddy after a brisk day of skiing. It is a sunny, windless day.  Dressed in a sweater, you're cozy and warm!  Suddenly the wind begins to blow and you feel a chill.   Finally when the wind picks up blowing right through your (warm) sweater and you are chased off the patio for fear of freezing to death!  This is exactly what happens to your house.  Only it works in reverse in the winter.  Warm air in your home rises to the highest point in the home and exits the home via the "high holes" (red arrows).  This causes a lower pressure area in the lower part of your home that pulls air into the house via the "low holes" (blue arrows).  By finding and plugging the "high and low holes" in your home, we can reduce the amount of uncontrolled "breathing" your home does.  This reduces the excess exchange (which cost energy dollars) and makes the home more comfortable and energy efficient.  This infiltration can also be induced by wind blowing against one side of your home, which causes high and low pressure areas around your house.  You probably have noticed your home being drafty on windy days.  Now we can't stop the wind, but, we can reduce the effect of pressure area impacts on your home.

Air sealing these leaks will help significantly reduce the amount of infiltraiton in your home and will lower your utility cost as well as make your home more comfortable.  Adding insulation to areas that are lacking proper insulation and installing insulation that also acts as an infiltration shield will be like adding a layer of fleece and a good wind barrier to yourself (in our example above), resulting in warmer more noticable comfort.  Our ColoradoHomeEnergyPros air sealing and insulation services will make sure that the leaks we have found in your home are sealed and insulated properly to create a more energy efficient and comfortable environment.  We utilize the most advanced single and two part foam insulation/sealing products and install the newest insulation (see insulation information page)in both loose fill and dense pack configurations to increase your home's insulation and reduce the comfort robbing effect of infiltration in your house.  Because we are trained in the home sciences, our insulation installations result in better insulation and infiltration levels.  We are more than an insulation installer, we're the ColoradoHomeEnergyPros!
